Herbert Smith Freehills Asia Promotes Six Senior Associates

Herbert Smith Freehills LLP recently announced the promotion of six senior associates in Asia from offices in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. The appointments will be effective from 1 May 2024.

 

Maisie Ko is from Herbert Smith Freehills’Hong Kong office, where she focuses on the area of corporate. She has extensive experience in initial public offerings and rule compliance and regularly works closely with banks, underwriters and public companies across a broad range of industries, particularly in the biotechnology, healthcare and healthcare sectors. Maisie has also been seconded to the legal team of Goldman Sachs and to the Policy department of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, where she advised on capital markets transactions, and helped drive the implementation of various policies.

 

Sornnarin Kongkasem is a senior associate at Smith Freehills’ Bangkok office. He has extensive experience in domestic and cross-border dispute resolution and specializes in commercial, employment, construction, and bankruptcy law. He also advises clients in the TMT, insurance and finance field commercial litigations. Moreover, he advises clients on administrative law, corporate and commercial matters, corporate governance, liability of directors, compliance programs, and franchise and product liability issues.

 

Chee Hian Kwah is a financial regulatory lawyer based in the Singapore office. Chee Hian specializes in a wide range of dispute and non-dispute matters in the financial services industry, including licensing applications, regulatory business alignment, business conduct rules, product provisioning rules, and anti-money laundering and counter- terrorism financing compliance. He also assists financial institutions by providing advisory services on internal and regulatory investigations of management misconduct, violations of AML laws, and business conduct compliance. Mr Chee Hian has extensive experience advising clients on their applications for Monetary Authority of Singapore licences, specifically.

 

Junyeon Park, a senior associate in Smith Freehills Tokyo office, specializes in advising businesses on white-collar crime and internal investigations. She focuses on antibribery and anticorruption legislative compliance, and has extensive experience in internal investigation, compliance advice, white-collar crime, U.S. litigation for global corporations, and international arbitration. Previously, she served as a Korean Foreign Service officer.

 

Marcus Wong is a senior associate in Smith Freehills Hong Kong office. He has specialized in the area of bond capital market, advising issuers, underwriters and trustees. He has extensive experience in the energy, financial institutions, public infrastructure, manufacturing and industry, transportation, consumption, gaming and real estate and gambling sectors.

 

Yida Xu is a senior associate at Smith Freehills Hong Kong Office. He has long been involved in the energy sector and has substantial experience and expertise in international energy projects, mergers, and acquisitions. He has advised numerous international projects and M&A cases in the energy industry, covering royalty agreements, joint venture constructions, project development projects, commodity trade and service agreements.
